On May 26, 2026, the Expert and Analytical Center for Horizon Scanning in Healthcare (Sechenov University) participated in the 3rd CIS Orphan Forum.
In the session "Health Technology Assessment for Rare Diseases" representatives from BRICS countries discussed challenges associated with health economic evaluation of drugs for rare diseases and presented current approaches to prioritizing medicines and improving access to orphan drugs. The session was moderated by Mohammed Alkhaldi, Canadian University in Dubai, and Nuria Musina, Sechenov University.
Participants noted that all countries face similar challenges and agreed on the need for cross-country collaboration on this issue. Agreements included the preparation of an article on approaches to HTA of orphan medicines and improving drug supply systems for orphan diseases in BRICS countries.
